    Myanmar – the Chickadee photographs

    ByDMcA January 21, 2014January 21, 2014

Final set from our Myanmar trip.  These are the shots that the Chickadee took as she started taking serious photographs for the first time.  No question – she has real talent.  Check out the very last shot of this series…….     The Chickadee had never taken any photographs other than Facebook snaps before, but…

    Myanmar – Bagan and Yangon

    ByDMcA January 15, 2014

The penultimate set of photos from this trip.  Our last two destinations, the amazing temples of Bagan and finally  the transcendental Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon.     After hightailing it out of Mandalay, we moved on to Bagan – equalled only by Angkor Wat in Cambodia for the number and beauty of its temples.  In contrast…

    Myanmar – Mandalay

    ByDMcA January 8, 2014January 15, 2014

On to Mandalay – with some street shots of market traders and world rulers, plus the wonderful U-Bein Bridge         We had heard mixed reviews of Mandalay, and we left the city with mixed feelings. One thing is for certain – it is not the exotic and romantic spot immortalized by Kipling. …

Myanmar – Fishermen and the stupas of Indein

    ByDMcA January 6, 2014January 15, 2014

Third Installment of Myanmar photos from Inle Lake.  This time the amazing fishermen and the stupas of Indein   Boatmen that don’t have an engine in their craft adopt a curious one-legged poling method in Inle.  One of the earlier shots in this series shows the boatman at the Treasure using it.  The Inle fishermen…

Myanmar – Inle and the journey to the second lake

    ByDMcA December 27, 2013January 8, 2014

The second installment of Myanmar photographs here.  These show a lot more of daily life on the lakes and channels of this very evocative region.     Inle is a huge inland lake in the north-east of the country.  It is surrounded by hills, and looks almost to have been an old caldera – I…

Myanmar – Views of the Treasure

    ByDMcA December 23, 2013January 8, 2014

The Chickadee and I did a circuit of Myanmar in late September and October.  I will be releasing batches of shots from this trip – here is the first, from the first place we stayed in,  the Myanmar Inle Treasure The Myanmar trip was the first I have ever done with a full-on photography intent. …

Latest News September 2021

“Still alive and able to get about quite well” is the overall report.  We are all fine, albeit with the usual ups and downs.  The site has been spiffed up a bit, and should be faster and easier to navigate.  I might even put some new content on – see What’s happening? for more info.

On other fronts, I think my photography techniques and images have improved quite a lot  over the last 4 years, and I have discovered a fascination for the technical and technique challenges of photographing birds in flight.  Have a look at mcaughtry.photo to see if you agree.  I have also discovered the delights of artisan coffee, and have built a spiffy state of the art digital audiophile music system, all of which I may write about in the future. So no shortage of things to interest or infuriate me.

But most of all my life has been enriched and inspired by my two beautiful and funny grandchildren, 5 and 2 years old as I write.  Why couldn’t I have been like this when I was their age I ask myself?  I am privileged to know them and my heart skips on each encounter.
