On Portability – Cameras part 4: Fuji F600 and F900

    ByDMcA May 8, 2012September 9, 2012

After too long a delay, I am going to finish off this series about good quality, handy, cameras.  The delay has been due to a lot of other stuff to do, plus I felt the need to do more lens testing between the four cameras I am describing here.  The process has taught me a…

On Portability – Cameras part 3: Fuji EXR technology

    ByDMcA April 16, 2012September 9, 2012

Warning – more than slightly wonkish!  In this section, I want to focus on the technology behind the two cameras I currently use the most, the Fuji Z900EXR, and the Fuji F600EXR.  The EXR technology (who knows what it stands for), in principle gives them an advantage compared to other cameras.  Whether it does or…

    Fuji F600 London Photos

    ByDMcA April 15, 2012September 26, 2012

When I got back to London in March, my new Fuji F600EXR was waiting for me.  I’ll describe it a bit in the next post – the 3rd part of the Camera Portability set.  But partly for that, and partly because I wanted to test it out, I have been carrying the Fuji with me…

The Scream at Sotheby’s – Go!

    ByDMcA April 13, 2012September 9, 2012

[singlepic id=154 w=320 h=240 float=left] Some of the rarest and most exquisite works of art in London can be found not at the major galleries, but at Christie’s or Sotheby’s.  Exhibitions here can be fleeting, and unique, as great masters pass from one super-rich owner to another.  This weekend only, at Sotheby’s there is a…

On Portability – Cameras part 2: Panasonic, Sony, Nikon

    ByDMcA April 10, 2012September 9, 2012

In the prior post I looked at the differences in portability in the 5 cameras I work with at the moment.  In this one, I want to look at each camera briefly, to describe why I bought it, how it performed, and what I currently use it for.  In the next post, I will look…

On Portability – Cameras part 1: Big to small

    ByDMcA April 9, 2012September 9, 2012

I’ve always been on a quest for the ideal digital camera. As technology keeps advancing, that’s a moving target of course, and it’s what keeps camera manufacturers in business.  But over the last few years, I’ve been putting my ideas about what makes the perfect digicam in some kind of order.  For me it turns…

Latest News September 2021

“Still alive and able to get about quite well” is the overall report.  We are all fine, albeit with the usual ups and downs.  The site has been spiffed up a bit, and should be faster and easier to navigate.  I might even put some new content on – see What’s happening? for more info.

On other fronts, I think my photography techniques and images have improved quite a lot  over the last 4 years, and I have discovered a fascination for the technical and technique challenges of photographing birds in flight.  Have a look at mcaughtry.photo to see if you agree.  I have also discovered the delights of artisan coffee, and have built a spiffy state of the art digital audiophile music system, all of which I may write about in the future. So no shortage of things to interest or infuriate me.

But most of all my life has been enriched and inspired by my two beautiful and funny grandchildren, 5 and 2 years old as I write.  Why couldn’t I have been like this when I was their age I ask myself?  I am privileged to know them and my heart skips on each encounter.
