Autumn in Cape Town – RX 100 photographs

    ByDMcA March 7, 2013March 7, 2013

Back in the warm south thankfully.  Here are a few photographs of the area immediately around our place in the Southern part of the Cape peninsula.         It’s late summer here, a lovely time when the winds ease, and the days are long and languid.  This year I only brought the little…

    Type “zerg rush” into Google.

    ByDMcA February 26, 2013February 26, 2013

“Zerg Rush is an online gaming term used to describe an overwhelming scale of attack carried out by one player against another in real time strategy (RTS) games. The term originates from the popular RTS game Starcraft, in which the “Zerg” race is notoriously known for its ability to mass-produce offensive units within a short…

London in February – RX100 photographs

    ByDMcA February 18, 2013February 18, 2013

Following on from the Ravelious piece in the last post, here are some shots taken with the tricked-up RX-100 in London in February this year.       While obviously the main point of having cameras is to futz about with accessories and technology, occasionally I like to actually take some photographs as well.  I…

    The paradox of Tyler Cowen

    ByDMcA February 17, 2013February 17, 2013

World music CDs of recent times/2012 Tyler Cowen is the right-leaning economist who runs the Marginal Revolution blog. An interesting man. You wouldn’t get this choice from Milton Freedman. The comments are also worth a look.

Shooting at the Sun – James Ravilious and lens hoods

    ByDMcA February 16, 2013

The work of a noted English photographer leads to the discovery of a useful camera gadget.  Also the latest tricked-up state of the Sony RX-100 is revealed.     A while ago I discovered the work of James Ravilious, and in doing so picked up some lessons from his technique.  Ravilious lived and worked in…

Latest News September 2021

“Still alive and able to get about quite well” is the overall report.  We are all fine, albeit with the usual ups and downs.  The site has been spiffed up a bit, and should be faster and easier to navigate.  I might even put some new content on – see What’s happening? for more info.

On other fronts, I think my photography techniques and images have improved quite a lot  over the last 4 years, and I have discovered a fascination for the technical and technique challenges of photographing birds in flight.  Have a look at mcaughtry.photo to see if you agree.  I have also discovered the delights of artisan coffee, and have built a spiffy state of the art digital audiophile music system, all of which I may write about in the future. So no shortage of things to interest or infuriate me.

But most of all my life has been enriched and inspired by my two beautiful and funny grandchildren, 5 and 2 years old as I write.  Why couldn’t I have been like this when I was their age I ask myself?  I am privileged to know them and my heart skips on each encounter.
