    Cambodian Images

    ByDMcA September 22, 2011September 26, 2012

Some snaps from my recent trip from Phnom Phen and Siem Reip. Apologies for the earlier problem with MS Explorer. I have now tested this with Firefox, Explorer and Chrome, and all seem to work fine.

Gerald Brooks on the legendary organ at the Abattiale de St Ouen

    ByDMcA September 16, 2011September 9, 2012

A once-in-a-lifetime experience listening to a very unique instrument. In a previous post I wrote about a performance of the St Saens ‘Symphony with Organ’ at the Albert Hall.  In researching that instrument, I learned about the organ at the Abattiale de St Oue, in Rouen, which is held by many to be one of…

Lucinda, the Chickadee, Margaret, and Lake Charles

    ByDMcA September 14, 2011September 14, 2011

In which I track down the sad story behind one of the chickadee’s favourite songs, reignite a love for South West Louisiana and Austin Texas, and learn about the very bad behavior of a respected journalist. In one of the interesting asides that make the LC such entertaining company, she mentioned in KL last week…

The Warehouse gallery and cafe – Kuala Lumpur

    ByDMcA September 6, 2011October 8, 2011

Brilliant new art gallery and cafe in downtown KL – best coffee in Chinatown, and coming soon, the best steak in the city! Now some may call me a little predisposed to this joint, as it is owned by the little chickadee (L) and her talented husband (K).  That notwithstanding, it’s a huge improvement to…

    Slow boat to Heathrow

    ByDMcA August 30, 2011August 31, 2011

Over twenty-five years of intensive traveling, I must have made (I roughly calculate) more than a thousand trips to Heathrow and back.  You would have thought there was little in the limo or minicab business that I had not seen in that time, but on my way to the aerodrome this trip I encountered a…

The trouble they’re in – part 3: Google’s problems with Apple

    ByDMcA August 25, 2011August 25, 2011

Apple’s all-out assault on Android around the world is Google’s biggest problem by far.  And on the day that Steve Jobs retires, it’s looking bad for Google/Motorola, Samsung and HTC.  Very bad…… In the last post on this subject, I covered Google’s problems with Oracle, and noted that the Apple situation was likely to be…

Latest News September 2021

“Still alive and able to get about quite well” is the overall report.  We are all fine, albeit with the usual ups and downs.  The site has been spiffed up a bit, and should be faster and easier to navigate.  I might even put some new content on – see What’s happening? for more info.

On other fronts, I think my photography techniques and images have improved quite a lot  over the last 4 years, and I have discovered a fascination for the technical and technique challenges of photographing birds in flight.  Have a look at mcaughtry.photo to see if you agree.  I have also discovered the delights of artisan coffee, and have built a spiffy state of the art digital audiophile music system, all of which I may write about in the future. So no shortage of things to interest or infuriate me.

But most of all my life has been enriched and inspired by my two beautiful and funny grandchildren, 5 and 2 years old as I write.  Why couldn’t I have been like this when I was their age I ask myself?  I am privileged to know them and my heart skips on each encounter.
