River Pageant – finale video and Final Day flypast phots

The best part of the Pageant was at the end, when the orchestra and singers turned up, and in the pelting rain, belted out ‘Rule Britannia’ and God save the Queen’.  I got a short clip of this, and although a bit wobbly, it really captures the moment I think.

On the last day of the Jubilee weekend there was a flypast of a WW2 Lancaster supported by Spitfires and Hurricanes, plus the Red Arrows aerobatics team.  We watched it again from M*’s roof, and it rained again of course.  I got a couple of shots though, which give a bit of the flavour also (click on the photos to get full-sized views, and press ‘close’ at the bottom to get back to the main screen).  All in all a great weekend.

  • Riders from the sea

I have wanted to take this shot for a while after having noticed the effect a year or two ago.  The viewpoint is from Kommetjie looking across the bay to Long Beach where the horses are exercised in the morning.  I liked the idea of appearing to see the riders as though from a boat…

  • London Geometry

Some recent photographs which focus on lines and shapes, taken in and around London.       These shots are possibly more ‘urban landscape’ than street photography, in that there is minimal evidence of people and the compositions rely more on shapes than content.  With the exception of the last one, they were taken with…

  • The hill’s on fire!

A huge mountain fire last night. This shot was taken from our house across the valley, and about 6km away. The width from left to right of the frame is maybe 500m, but the entire ridge was alight. This shot shows the front powering towards Kommetjie The ridge dips down to Kommetjie on the right,…

  • Morning, crashing sea

Click to enlarge. I rose yesterday morning with no trace of the hangover that might have been expected given the excesses of the previous evening. The morning scales reading (net weight, pre-breakfast) was also unexpectedly low, but despite the lack of any immediate requirement to try to lose weight,  I resolved to run on the…

On to Mandalay – with some street shots of market traders and world rulers, plus the wonderful U-Bein Bridge         We had heard mixed reviews of Mandalay, and we left the city with mixed feelings. One thing is for certain – it is not the exotic and romantic spot immortalized by Kipling. …
