The Wonderful New Saeco Incanto Sirius

The Vienna made nice coffee, but not strong.  Not the strength of commercial machines - despite Saeco being primarily a vendor of commercial systems  - in fact they are the parent company of Gaggia.

I bought the original Vienna in Croydon, London - not too far from my home.  When the Vienna next needed servicing, the Saeco HQ had moved to Halifax in Yorkshire.  Miles away now, but quite close to the Yorkshire Farmhouse of my esteemed brother-in-law.  On a visit there I took the Vienna in for a service, and found that this was now the UK HQ for Saeco, and Gaggia - commercial and domestics machines both.  The showroom is a place of beauty and an extremely dangerous place to be wandering around.  It has everything - gleaming, hitech, fabulous espresso machines of every type.

I had already been doing research on more powerful systems than the Vienna, but they were much more expensive.   The Incanto Sirius was the absolute peak of perfection.   A double-sized ground coffee container, and additional strength and pressure controls made it dangerously alluring, but it costs £850, or about $1500.   However, one look at the thing in the showroom and I was lost.  Fortunately, we were able to make a deal, and I went away the proud owner of a superb new espresso system.

This does everything - it's fully electronic, with an LCD screen at the front, and warnings, for low water, low coffee, full grounds drawer, replace water filter...etc.  Plus the ability to make wonderful strong coffee, with a crema like Guinness.  Italian friends have declared it is the first time they have had a true espresso in someone's home.   Now all I have to do is to wait for it to break down.......
